Whine or Dine? Breakfast + Lunch= BRUNCH time!

My absolute favorite meal of the day/ week/ month/ and year is the morphing of breakfast + lunch= BRUNCH (with a side of french fries of course). The Metropolitan area has many hot spots for this great portmanteau. Though nothing comparable to cities like San Fran, NYC and Montreal... we're still trying though.

I'll list a quick reference for great brunch spots (note: French toast is my fave)

CoCo Sala specializes in desserts, coffee and pastries. Though I often stroll around later in the evening holding my breath in hopes that there's someone sitting on the patio to signify they're open- I'm usually disappointed. Don't plan on this place for a late night dessert, however their daytime hours are flexible enough to catch one of their many "puddings".

  • Hotcake Obsession [citrus ricotta pancakes, white chocolate lemon cream, berry compote, caramel passion fruit sauce]

The Chef usually has a pastry selection not listed on the menu, I had a pistachio cake that was light and perfect with green tea.

Fontaine Cafe & Creperie in Old Town (right across from Lavender cupcakery) is a casual cozy recent find for me. The Euro feel and great cappuccinos is an eggcelent treat for a weekend brunch.

  • Ooh La La Chocolate French Toast [warm mixed berry compote and whipped cream]
  • Bella [sweet crepe, fresh strawberries and nutella]

(Don't forget to try their fresh piping hot french fries)

Matchbox DC, situated in the heart of DC's Chinatown- don't be surprised to find a great Brunch selection at this little Vintage Pizza Bistro.

  • Fresh Fruit Waffle [strawberries, bananas, raspberry, whipped cream, maple syrup]

J&G Steakhouse a'top the beautiful W Hotel in DC offers a really unique twist to their french toast, they keep it real simple.

  • French Toast [sauteed apples]
  • Eggs Benedict [tomato salad, crispy potatoes]

BusBoys and Poets in Shirlington isn't just a fair trade market for four eyed eclectic types. The place was named after famed poet Langston Hughes (he once worked as a busboy) and is a great chill place for late hours filled with the artistic community in the area.

  • Bagels with Lox [cream cheese, tomato, onions and capers]
  • Vegan Egg Wrap [mixed veggies, vegan cheese, home fries]

Check these suggestions out & see if they're worth a Whine or happy Dine.

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
